Hello, my name is Tino Martinez, and I live in Broomfield, Colorado. I go to Broomfield High school as an incoming senior. I am a student athlete, which means being a student comes first before being an athlete. To me, grades and education are what matter the most. I am an athlete of two wonderful sports, track and soccer. I began track when I was a freshman at Broomfield High School, I’m a 400m and a 4x400m runner. People say the 400m is one of the most painful races to run. However, every time I hear this, I use it for motivation. Nothing beats the accomplishment I feel after completing each 400m race. My fastest 400m time came to me as a junior at 51.47 seconds. I'm also a Boulder County champion in the 4x400m in which I had achieved that goal as a sophomore. During the end of my sophomore year as a track runner, I had become an alternate for state for the 4x200m and 4x400m. I am also a member of the Academic All-State Team for Boys Track and Field and recently had made All-conference for the 4x200m.
In addition to track, I also play soccer. I was eight years old when I first became part of a team. I play as a forward, but am more than willing to play anywhere I’m needed. During my freshman year I made junior varsity and was named captain for the team. Sophomore year, my goal was to try and make varsity, but ended up making junior varsity again. As a result of not making varsity, I used this as motivation to continue to work hard in order to lead my team. Being a leader is one of my main attributes as a track and soccer player, in which I am one that everyone can respect and look up to. Towards the end of my sophomore season I was moved up to varsity during the playoffs. After all my hard work, I finally got my chance. Soon enough, we made it all the way to the State Championship and won! This was the greatest moment I have ever experienced and one I will always remember. At the end of the season, for a second time I was awarded to be a member of the Academic All-State team for Boys Soccer. During my junior year our team made it to state again, but took 2nd and also achieved Academic All-Sate again.
Since I began high school, I have grown to be a leader. I even had the chance to volunteer at my school to be a “Blue Crew” leader. This opportunity allowed me to be a leader to incoming freshman in order to guide them in their transition to high school. I'm also involved in leadership for the school where we learn to be better leaders and also do some community service for the school.I have become very organized and have a wonderful work ethic. Those who describe me would say that I am a hard working student and athlete who has a passion to learn, succeed and play well. My favorite motto is to “never give up”. Whether you are winning or losing, it’s the amount of effort that you put in to achieve your goals that matters most.
