Personal Statement
My name is Michael Collins, and I am a senior cross country/track runner from Red Lion Christian Academy in Bear, DE. I have been running for 6 years now and am very interested in running cross country and track in college. I have run a road racing overall 5k pr of 17:07, a 17:13 for the cross country 5K, and a 4:52 mile in a late fall timed mile. In 2014, I received an all-county nomination by running 17th in a pr 17:13 at the New Castle County Championships, and also received a medal at the Delaware state championships by running 13th in 17:33. All of these accomplishments were achieved while playing varsity soccer full time as a left fullback.
In college, my plans are to study atmospheric sciences/meteorology, but I have other options that I am considering in case my primary major doesn't work out. I am an A/B student who is in 2 AP classes. I am also involved in many extra-curricular activities, such as band, choir, science olympiad, math league, worship team, and musicals. I also play 3 other sports throughout the year: soccer, baseball, and basketball.
From an athletic perspective, I bring a form of quiet leadership to the table. Ever since my freshman year, I have been the lead runner for my team and know how to push my teammates to be better. I am open to just about anything that makes the team better and leads to overall improvement.
