Sports have been a big part of my life since I was 4 years old! By seventh grade, I had played 10 different sports over 28 seasons. I was often labeled a "natural athlete" by many of my coaches, and stood out for my speed, being the fastest runner on many of those teams.
By junior high, much of that experience had set me up to meet the challenging nature of pole vault. As an eighth grader, I set the varsity track teams school record at 10'6" and added 4 additional feet to that record by my junior year, clearing 14'6" at Districts.
I am a determined athlete that thrives on a challenge. While healing a partially torn hamstring this last year, I entered each meet at close to my PR height, shortened my runway, and focused hard on my form to clear the bar on the first attempt, as to not over work my leg. I ended the year as County and District Champions, Runner Up at Regionals, and 4th place at States, as well as adding one and a half feet to my PR, and school record.
When interviewed by the local news, my Coach, John Raleigh stated that he feels my potential is to be a mid 16' vaulter by next year. I work out with a trainer year around to get stronger and faster, so I also feel that my fullest potential is yet to be met.
