Personal Statement
Aloha!
My name is Rihei Grothmann. I'm from Hilo, Hawaii. I am currently a senior at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii located in Kea'au. Doing things outdoors has always been a passion for me, especially since I live in the sunny weather of Hawaii. I've learned many values growing up, values that I possibly wouldn't have learned if I hadn't done sports. Through sports such as: soccer, basketball, cross country, and track and field, I've learned the importance of lokahi (unity), kuleana (responsibility), ho'omau (to persevere), ha'aha'a (humble), and many more values. I've participated in track and field since I was 5 years old. Over the past 12 years, I've learned to stay focused and be driven and committed to reach my goals, not only for track and field, but also in the classroom as well. One of my goals is to continue my student-athlete career at the next level. I understand that being a student comes first, which is why I push myself just as hard in the classroom. I intend on majoring in Exercise Science/Kinesiology in hopes of becoming a Physical Education teacher, where I can give back to my school and community. Participating in track and field at the next level means a lot to me. I believe that I haven't reached my full potential yet and I hope to achieve that in college. I'm more interested in staying closer to home on the West Coast, but I wouldn't mind going further East if it means I'm given the opportunity to pursue my student-athlete career at the next level. I'm not just an athlete of the sport, but I am also a student of the sport.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Rihei Grothmann
