Skylar De Jong '15 Recruiting Profile

My name is Skylar De Jong.  I love to run.  My love for running really started in elementary school as we competed to see who could run the most laps during P.E.  I set the school record.  My teacher encouraged my parents to enter me in the Hershey Track Meet and told them to put me in the farthest distance available.   That is when I realized I wanted to be a distance runner.

 I continue to strive to improve my running by setting higher personal goals each season.  I am dedicated to putting the miles into practice and appreciate input from my coaches to reach these goals.  Being an accomplished wrestler, I understand how nutrition and mental preparation are an important part of racing.  I plan to participate in Team Prep High Altitude 20 day running camp this summer to further improve my mental and physical game.

I am motivated to work just as hard in the classroom.  I have maintained a 3.97 G.P.A. while participating in multiple extracurricular activities including lettering in 5 sports, select chamber choir, Storybook Players, 4H and my church youth group to name a few.  I was honored to be inducted into the National Honors Society as a sophomore.

I am determined to compete at the college level.  I am an enthusiastic person.   I would enjoy being on a team which works hard and has fun at the same time.  I am also looking for a college which will allow me to grow academically.  At this time, I am interested in a science degree which will help me continue on to podiatry school after college.
