Personal Statement

I've been a runner all my life. The need for speed has always been there. I've been running Cross Country and Track for 3 years in High School and will continue for my senior year. I began with Cross Country and a little freshman who just liked to run, but when I heard I could do different types of races in Track and Field I signed up right away. I started with pole vault and hurdles freshman year and I picked up both extremely quickly. I was three stepping the high hurdles by mid season of indoor season. I got put into a few 4x400 races and fell in love with sprints immediately. I started the 200 relay just this year and was able to help my team qualify for the state meet. I also was able to try to get a 100 relay qualify but we did not make the mark. The ability to see how much you can push your body to in so many different ways intrigued me so I picked up almost every event I could. 100, 200, 400, pole vault, high jump, long jump, 110 hurdles, and 300 hurdles are my events. I hope to compete in the decathlon or other multi-events. My goal is to be the top decathlon runner in the division. I want to help my college win division titles.
As a student athlete I am there to learn as well. My future goes beyond the track and hopefully past medical school. Focus is set not only on the track but in the classrooms as well. I hope to gain knowledge; that I can apply to my job, and future education. In school I've always had an interest in learning. Knowing more is just something that I need. That's why I'm interested in the science because you can always ask why and they will either give you the answer or say lets find out.
I would be an exceptional candidate for your team because I am extremely coachable. I can take initiative to look at how I perform and change what is needed to improve. Track is a team sport. I am a very good teammate. Helping others during practice, through tough workouts and loses, but celebrating wins and accomplishments as well. I also help when I'm not competing. During meets I help set up and put away the hurdles, move the pole vault pits if needed whether or not it's a home meet or away. I am all around just as eager to learn in the classroom as on the track.
