Personal Statement
My name is Seth Borrowman, I am a junior in high school, and over the past couple years I have really fallen in love with running. I am 5'10 and 135 lbs. In the summer between 7th and 8th grade, one of my friends asked me to train with the high school cross country team over the summer because he thought I was a good runner. I decided to give it a try, and absolutely loved it. I was keeping up with some of the older runners and holding my own. When I started high school for myself I decided to give it a try, even though I was playing soccer at the time. The two sports conflicted some, but it worked out and I made it to all of the important races. I am starting to really focus more on running, and have quit soccer to focus on cross country and track. My best time for a 3 mile course this year was 15:38. Last year in track I ran a 4:39 1600, 1:12 4x800 split, and ran a 57 second 4x400 split. These track times are from sophomore year, and I an working to improve them right now. I have high expectations for the coming track season, and have made big goals for myself. I hope to inform you of my improvements when the season comes around.
I would love to run for a college. I enjoy running, and offering my talents to help a team would be amazing. I am willing to do whatever it takes to be the best I can be. Really anywhere would be fine with me for college, even though my first preference would be in the Midwest. I have no preference on the size of the school. I would just like to grow as an athlete and a person, and learn something while I'm doing what I love. I would like a strong academic level because I aspire to be a doctor. I always like to be challenged, and the high competition mixed with the high academics can do that for me.
My goal is to be an asset to whatever team I'm on, whether it be track or cross country. Running in college would help me because the high competition always pushes me to do better and improve. If I could be a strong part of the team early on, I'd be ecstatic. I have always loved friendly competition within a team, and I enjoy having teammates push me to my full potential. A couple years ago if anyone had asked me if I want to run a bunch of miles, I would have said no way, what crazy person would do that. Now I realize, that once you start running, you just can't stop. It will always be a part of my life, and to share my talents with a team in college would be one of the absolute best things that could happen to me.
