Personal Statement

Good Day Coaches and Assistant Coaches My name is Jacob Merritt I have competed in Distance since i was Just a Boy being the Youngest Nephew to Two OHSAA  finalists in the 5K i learned there techniques since i was a kid and turned into a sprinter before making the move to distance in middle school. My goals for college is to get my college degree and compete for my family and get my small school known in the running world. Our school has a great history of distance runners but we haven't been lucky as of recently our last confrence title was 2014 and my goal was to bring us another but its tougher said than done we barely were able to field a team this year but i was happy to at least have a team we finished second to last this year but i as a bright spot i was top 35 in the confrence was our first Junior individual to qualify in three years and received two awards this summer before this i was a nobody i was a great prospect in the JV team but nobody had heard the name even in the confrence. But now I have to say my team first mentality makes me a good teammate i'm great at teaching people even when they don't want to learn i spend my time helping them and giving them film i take to help them learn what changes they need to make and my character is kind and loyal i get along with most my teammates but they hate that i stretch on my own because i have a specific stretching regiment thatch different from the teams regiment i was told i could do and that the only thing we argued about and they loved my kindness to them there like my second set of brothers and sister i treat them like family and they treat me like family and we work and get stronger even though we argue at times we get along in the end. it goes academics before athletics in my family and i am a Honors student have about 2,500 hours of volunteer hours and was a decent academic in the honors program with a 3.5 weighted GPA I havent won a academic award because i treat my academics well im very on top of my work and a great guy in the workout set and everyone says if there's someone nice at north harrison there ether there friends or Jacob Merritt. Beyond that thank you for your time and have a great rest of your Day Coaches! -Jacob M

Academic Accomplishments

Are you in honor classes?
Yes. Our Honors class system works with classes that are offered on a 5.0 scale instead of a 4.0 so if i got a C in a 5.0 Scale class when i put it in to turn it in to a college on a 4.0 scale it becomes a B and vice versa 5.0 scale is only used for specific classes though and you can also take college classes as your first period class and receive college credit for said classes and take college classes during the summer and also from dual credit classes which has earned me around 30 college credits without being enrolled in college.
Are you in AP/IB classes?
No
Registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center?
Yes

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
