Personal Statement
Running is much of my life. I've been competitively running since sixth grade, but I have been running for fun a lot of my life. In my younger years, I'd remember racing my brother around the house, friends in a sprint race, or even my dog in the backyard. I was that 'one kid' in sports that enjoyed conditioning like running 'suicides' or '16's.' I've always loved to run, feel fast, and push myself. I continued these activities until sixth grade when I went out for the track team. Hoping to run sprints, but knowing I probably wouldn't have many chances as many athletes went out for sprints, I decided to join long distance. Unaware of what the nature of long-distance truly was, I was in for a surprise. And turns out, this surprise was the best surprise of my life. I loved that track season so much that the next year I went out for the cross-country team and from there I was truly able to showcase my abilities. Along my journey, I made new relationships, gained more knowledge about the sport itself, learned more about myself mentally and physically, and more.
But running doesn't fully define who I am. I have a great family, wonderful friends, two amazing dogs, a love for basketball, plus more. Additionally, I love to educate myself about Christ himself and become educated in the classroom as well. In school, I work diligently, trying to understand the concepts that are brought upon me, doing my homework, or even just being prepared for the next test, I take pride in the classroom to better myself and give myself great opportunities. Positioning the attention back on the things I cherish most, I enjoy watching movies with my family, hanging out with friends, walking my dogs, and even playing video games with my brother. Adding to the fact about being with friends, most of these friends are my teammates. Though we may be teammates on the cross-country course and track, we are brothers off of it. Something my teammates and I do well together is getting the work done not only in races but in practices. When we don't have organized team practices, my teammates and I will meet some place and get a run or workout in, no matter the weather or circumstances.
With that being said, I believe I am a good candidate for college teams as I am a hardworking runner who puts blood, sweat, and tears into his sport, puts the same effort from running into school, and has a life outside of running and school too. I also believe that I can make a substantial impact for any school that gives me the chance, and I am more than happy to connect with schools that give me opportunities.
