Personal Statement
I have the heart and the desire to be a valuable member of any team. My coach and mentor, Al Munoz, always told me that you can’t coach desire, and I feel like desire can almost be a synonym to track and field. Coach Munoz has played a major part in my love of running and has developed me into the runner I am today. I continued working with him throughout middle school, also running for his USATF team, the Fayetteville Flyers. Although he was the head coach at a different high school than I attended, he continued to support me and give me advice at meets. In May 2014, we unexpectedly lost Coach Munoz to natural causes. I am determined to follow the course he set me on and I will run competitively in college. Throughout my experiences in this sport so far, I have noticed that if you want to be successful you have to work harder than you ever have before. Everything you do you have to push to be successful, nothing in this sport is given to you, and you have to earn everything you achieve. At the end of outdoor track season in May (2014), my family moved to Fort Polk, Louisiana, due to my father’s Army career. This season we became the 4A LHSAA State Runner-Up for the first time in our high school cross country program. I earned a 3rd Place finish and a spot on the All-State team in the 4A Division. As a junior now, I know I will continue to develop as a runner and a student. At this point, I am still undecided as to the degree I would like to pursue. I have thought about a career in the U.S. Army and possibly pursuing a ROTC program in college. I will put everything I have into maintaining and improving my education and my athleticism. I know I will be a valuable addition to the team that gives me the opportunity to be a part of their program.
