Personal Statement

My name is Nick Boogades and I run track at South River High School in Edgewater, MD. My running experience in high school has been indoor track my freshman year and indoor and outdoor track sophomore year. I also played football freshman and sophomore year, as well as baseball freshman year.

This year I decided to make the switch from football to xc. Our first race was our home invitational meet. It was also my first 5K. In that meet i ran a 16:33 which was the 2nd fastest time ever ran by a south river runner on any variation of our course. My PR this season is currently 16:02 in a 5K and I ran 15:48 on a 3mile course.

At indoor states I finished 3rd in the 1600 with a 4:27, my first time going sub 4:30. That race was one of the best miles I've ever ran. The pace was real slow the first 800, I came through in 2:19 but then had a strong last 800, negative splitting by 11 seconds. I also finished 11th in the 800, which did not go how I wanted it to go but it was a learning experience.

This outdoor season I finished 2nd in the state in the 1600 with a time of 4:21 and also was the lead leg of our 4x8 which placed 3rd. The state's 1600 was one of the more interesting races I've ran. I was in a poor position going into the last lap but was able to close in a 57 and push into second place. Throughout the year in the 4x8 I have consistently split a 1:55 and we finished the season with a school record 7:58.

I would like to go to a university where I know I can grow as a runner, as a student and as a person. I know that being a runner is about doing whatever it takes to be the best, doing things that the average person wouldn't do, and doing things not because they are easy but because they are hard. That's what makes track an amazing sport.
