Personal Statement
My name is Adam Caruso and I live in South Lyon, Michigan where I attend South Lyon East High School and will graduate in the spring of 2016. I am 5 feet 8 inches tall and weigh 145 pounds, have a GPA of 2.6 and have a strong interest in meteorology, and Environmental Engineering. I have run on the Varsity Cross Country and Varsity Track teams as well as an indoor track team called The Edge since my sophomore year. Other sports I have participated in are football and baseball, and I’m heading into my third season on the Varsity Ski racing team. I am a two time state qualifier in cross country breaking school records and getting an honorable mention in Oakland County, and a state qualifier in skiing as well. My events in track are the 1600M, 3200M and 4x800M. In track I hold the sophomore record for the 3200M, and I, and my teammates broke the 4X800M this past spring too. Also, I have been awarded with an honorable mention in Oakland County for track.
I hope to make it into the D2 level of college athletics. I think I would make a good candidate for any team, because I work hard, I’m self-motivated and set high goals and standards for myself. You will see me work hard on either the cross country course, the track, or in the classroom. There will never be a time where you won't see me give it my all because I never quit or give up until the job or goal is reached. You will see me bring a lot of energy, positivity, and fire to the team which I think is important for a team to succeed. I have confidence to be a leader, so if no one is willing to guide or show leadership I will be the one to step in and take control.
The thing I think that makes me different from many other athletes or recruits is the experience I have in being a leader. I used to play football growing up, and played quarterback for five years. That position is a leadership position, and I learned how to be a leader. Being the quarterback taught me how to handle pain, it told me how to become mentally and physically tough too. Also it taught me how to stay positive, and bounce back after a loss or negative impact on you too. Finally it taught me how to handle responsibility, and become organized too. This experience of being a quarterback has made me a much stronger person, mentally, and physically. Also this has made a much more mature person too. That's what I think makes me stand out from any other athlete or recruit.
