Personal Statement
Hello, I am Ean Buffington, a Junior at Jackson High School, and I love distance running. I am an extremely hardworking and committed student- athlete. In my sport I have achieved many great things, including freshman year PR's of a 1:58 800m relay split, 2:00 800m open, 4:28 1600m, 9:52 3200m, and a 16:17 5k time. I competed at the state meet in cross country and track my freshman year. My 4x800m meter team taking 3rd place. I won districts in the 3200m and finished 1st place at the midwest distance classic freshman boys 1600m, a highly competitive race. (race video- http://il.milesplit.com/videos/94692/midwest-distance-classic-freshman-boys-1600m ). Sadly during the summer after my freshman year I suffered an ACL, ALL, and Meniscus tear. I had reconstructive surgery and spent months in rehab, missing my entire sophomore cross country season. But I am returning strong and have been running pretty fast once again in spring track training.
Although I have been successful on the track, my most prized accomplishments have been off the track. I have been awarded the Best Overall Student Award twice, the Peer Citizenship Award twice, the Montgomery Bank Citizenship Award, Missouri State High school Activities Association Award of Excellence, School Spirit Award, and several more. I have also been selected by my local Rotary club to attend the RYLA Leadership camp and by my high school to go on the Sophomore Pilgrimage, a tour of the my states capital where only one student from select high schools in Missouri are able to attend. Most importantly, my grades are number one. I have had a 4.0 gpa all throughout my high school career and I am ranked in the top 3% of my class.
I am an all around excellent student athlete that wishes to pursue college running. Most importantly I wish to get a great education, and I am so excited to see what my college future holds for me.
