My Name is Andrew Ramsey. I love running and it’s a passion I never want to give up. I’ve had to overcome a lot but I still do it today. I started running because of an eating disordered I developed freshman year and my running career began. After overcoming my disorder my passion for running ignited and I put everything I had into it. I put on some weight and was in shape to start track at the end of sophomore year. With a time of 7:02 I was upset with myself and pushed myself hard and got my times down to 6:05. The beginning of junior year I started cross country with again a disappointing run of 24:35. I pushed myself further and cut my times down to 20:01. An Obsession I ran every day and didn’t take a day off which I would learn soon that it wasn’t a smart idea. I built up my speed and stamina and attempted my first half marathon in Charlotte on my birthday on December 11, 2011. It was an unforgettable experience which I will never forget and I ran the half marathon in 1:35:34. I started track junior year with high expectations and was determine to break under 6:00 my first meet. All the hard work was paying off as I ran a 5:52 in the one mile and had the best two mile race of my career with a 12:41. The next meet I beat my mile time with a 5:49 and was ready to do the same in my two mile race. I finished the two mile with a 13:35 and a broken foot. I learned how important rest days were and had to learn the hard way. After five week I returned to the last track meet of the season and ran a 6:35. I have a lot of work ahead of me but my passion for running will never be extinguished. I’m looking to run in college and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to be the best. I hope to run either at Appalachian State or UNC Greensboro but regardless where I go ill give the coach my all. I have a great work ethic I can bring to the team as well as motivation which I have learned really helps a Peron in the most crucial parts of a race. My Mom is a single parent and she works very hard in providing the best she can for me. Financial need or any other assistance would be of great need. Now that I have overcome my eating disorder my intended major is to be a nutritionist and help people with similar problems to mine. I love to help people and now that I can relate with them I want to dedicate my time to help people with eating disorders. To be realistic I know I won’t get an athletic scholarship but I want to come in as a walk on in college and give everything I have to the team and hope to contribute as well. Running is my desire and I won’t let anything stand in the way of my goal. I will give everything I can possibly give you and hope to be a member of the cross country and track team of the college I go to.
