Personal Statement
My name is Brandon Pankey and I love to compete and run. I have fallen in love with distance running, to the point where I have withdrawls when I don't run. I have set high goals for myself in finishing at the top of my class academically, and earning an opportunity to compete in college in running events.
I love to train in the mountains and how running a race makes me feel as a person. The thrill of not just beating my opponents but in pushing myself to the next levels every race. I am learning how to attack a course instead of just running it, and how to plan a race strategy. I am developing as a leader, learning from the class before me, and watching the example of other top athletes around me. As I begin my Senior year I have enjoyed the role of Team leader. Voted most valuable Runner last year and selected as team captain by my teammates was eciting. I look forward to a very competitive team experience this season. A state championship is with in our sights.
I look forward to continued growth and meeting college coaches and programs the next few months as I make a choice on college direction. My dreams include studying engineering, and challenging myself at the college level in sports. If I had to choose now, I would prefer a career in the aerospace department or mechanical engineering; however, both chemical and computer engineering have caught my attention as well. I love to hike in the mountains and hope to find a school where outdoor adventure, such as hiking and camping, can be easily accessable. The closer the mountains the better. I have narrowed my search for schools to primarily west fo the Rockies. I will continue to listen and evaluate all schools but have found that I feel at home on the campus visits out west.
In school, I excel at both math and chemistry, and really enjoy AP world history. I am also taking my fourth year in French which has been a rewarding experience in high school. My academic choices in high school have set me apart at school and have given me a foundation to succeed at college. I have taken as many AP and Honors classes as possible in math, science and english and have maintained a weighted GPA of 4.38. I was really excited to get my ACT score back this summer and see I scored a 34, loking to retake SAT this fall to see if I can improve my 1380 score there.
I have found my passion in service at Church. I enjoy running the sound and tech systems at our church and have found being a support to our leaders in the Tech field very rewarding. This summer I also acted as a church leader at our annual kids camp, leading over 60 kids daily in adventures and games in the mopuntains. I am also now in NHS (National Honor Society) and a Block D (our lettermans club) member going on three years now.
I look forward to speaking to coaches, looking at the academic opportunities at each school and making a decision early next spring as my family wieghs the financial options I will have in college.
Thanks for taking a look and hope to hear from you this season.
