Personal Statement
I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada and am the youngest of three siblings with two older sisters. My parents taught me the value of hard work as I was exposed to and involved in our family painting and building services business. Growing up with access to the Sierra Nevada mountains I developed a love of the outdoors and enjoy camping, hiking, and fishing.
My interest in Track & Field was sparked when I would attend track meets that my sisters were involved in. I would watch the athletes warm up and compete and admire their performances.
Through my Track & Field experience I have learned that life is what you make of it. I have learned that you get out of things what you put into them. I have learned that committing yourself to something and working hard to get better can yield positive results. I have contributed to my team by stepping up to fill relay spots and various events whenever asked. I decided to focus on hurdles as my specialty as it was an event that nearly everyone on my team avoided. It was event where I could work hard, improve my time and technique, and score points for my team.
In my three years of competition at the high school level, I have had two different head coaches, one of which was my long jump coach, three different sprints coaches, and two hurdles coaches.
Although athletics have always been an important part of my overall school experience, my primary focus has been academics. I am aware of the fact that participating in athletics has limitations while acquiring an education will endure for my lifetime. I enjoy helping others and solving problems, which is why I have an interest in pursuing pre-med and psychology.
I feel blessed to have been given the opportunities made available in my life. I do not take for granted the sacrifices and hard work on the part of my parents that has afforded me access to the private school education I have received. I understand the value of hard work, the comradery of belonging to a team, and the importance of being a humble leader. My desire is to find an educational institution where I can receive a quality education that will allow me grow as an individual and where I can be a contributing member of an athletics program.
