Personal Statement
My personal statement would have to start with an introduction to my family as they are a significant part of who I am. I was born in Connecticut, now live in New Jersey, and have two brothers and a sister all younger in age. My parents have helped me see the value in surrounding yourself with good people, and therefore, my college choice is a very important decision. In addition to family, my values include maintaining my faith, academic excellence, a healthy lifestyle, and helping others in need. My passion for track and field started in 7th Grade and has become stronger each year that I have participated in the throwing events. I love competition, and the challenge of competing at a high level. The required combination of technique, strength, and speed makes the shot put, discus, and hammer my favorite events. I am a very determined person who does not quit in difficult situations. I am organized and act responsibly in setting a good example for others. I enjoy working with others and have a willingness to help others. I know it is important to be a good listener, and as a result I have been told that I am very coachable and apply what I was taught immediately. My short term goals for my senior year include graduating with greater than a 4.0 GPA from Union Catholic High School, achieve 195 feet in the discus, achieve 60 feet in the shot put, achieve 180 feet in the hammer throw, become New Jersey State Champion in Discus and Shot Put in 2015, and compete for a national title in all three events. Several coaches have had an influence on my passion for track and field. As a result, long term, I would love to have the opportunity to pass on my knowledge of my events to aspiring youth athletes.
