Personal Statement
Dear Coach,
My name is Tim Van Cauwenberge, I am entering my senior year at West Orange High School. I have been participating in both indoor and outdoor track & field my entire high school career. I was part of the Seton Hall Prep track & field teams my freshman and sophomore years. I participated on rhw West Orange High School’s track and field teams my junior and now my senior year.
I know I’ve been lucky to work with dedicated and talented coaches to guide me. I also feel I have been lucky to work with some of the most talented teammates in NJ.
One of the best parts of playing a sport is being a part of a team. If you’ve never participated in an organized sport, it’s hard to describe the feeling of being a part of something “big”. Everyone is counting on each other. If a teammate isn’t performing to their potential on a particular event, each individual pushes themselves a little harder for the good of the team. Knowing that if you falter; one of you teammates has your back and you would do the same for them without question. The team is always at the forefront of your thoughts as you try your best to run just a millisecond faster, or jump a ¼ of an inch higher, or throw a bit further than your last time. To become the best you can be, for the good of the team.
I’m only as good as my last jump so I’m always trying to improve. I am smart and a quick learner, but most importantly I am dedicated and have a positive attitude. As my coaches can attest to, I don’t give up and promise myself to do what it takes to be the best I can be for myself and teammates. I carry this dedication not only in my sports career but also the academic and social aspects of my life.
If you are looking for a man of true character, dedication, a can-do attitude, a team player, and a hunger to win, I’m your candidate. Hope to hear from you. Tim Van Cauwenberge
