Vlad Castillo Jr. '15 Recruiting Profile

Hello! I am humbled by your interest, now let me tell you a little about myself: I'm a 6'3" thrower from Montgomery High School, New Jersey. I have started on the Montgomery High School Track Varsity team for the past three years. I started throwing Shot Put and Discus in 7th grade. I am currently a Junior. I have a 3.3 unweighted GPA, and a 3.5 weighted GPA. I weigh about 175-180 pounds.

In Winter Track, I placed 1st in Somerset County Championships, Skyland Conference Championships, Lavino Relays, State Group IV Championships and Sectional Championships. I was also named Captain & MVP of Montgomery Track.

In Spring Track, I placed 1st Somerset County Championships (Shot & Discus), Skyland Conference Championships (Shot & Discus), Sectional Championships in Shot Put and 2nd at Sectional Championships in DIscus. I went on to place 5th at Group IV Champions(Discus), 2nd in Shot Put at Group IV Championships, and 7th at Meet of Champions in Discus.

As a sophomore, I was Somerset County Champion in Discus. I went on to go place 5th in Skyland Conference Championships, 2nd in Sectionals, 8th in Group IV Championships, and 28th at Meet of Champions for Discus. In Shot Put, last year I placed 3rd in Somerset County Championships. I also placed 5th in Skyland Conference Championships for Shot Put.

I was just elected Class President this year. I was previously elected Vice President for two years in a row. Last year, I was elected Vice President of Membership for Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). This year, I was elected Secretary for FBLA. I also play the Trumpet. I am also a Peer Leader for Montgomery High School as well. I regularly attend youth group at Princeton Alliance Church and I have even helped out in Appalachia, TN for a missions trip. I also unofficially started Christian Club at my school.

I am looking for an institution where I can have great education. I would like to pursue a school that has a great academic reputation in Business Management, Marketing or Entrepreneurship. I am looking for a school in the Tri-State/New England area. I am Christian and am heavily involved in church so I am open to Christian Universities/Colleges.  Since both of my parents are immigrants, I am also interested in Latin American culture and Hispanic influence in our society. I would like to go to an institution that embraces diversity.

I am dedicated and will do whatever it takes to compete at the next level. I really want to throw Shot Put and Discus in college. I love to work out, work on technique, and throw. Track is the only sport that I do, so my complete focus and dedication is towards Track & Field.

I believe my best fit for college athletics would be a Division 1 institution. My resolution is to attend an institution that will provide me with the best opportunity to learn.
