My name is Alexander Garcia-Rodriguez. I started running for St. Anthony’s High School my freshmen year. I started running because I wasn’t in a sport at the moment and was told to join. I never would have realized the major impact being a runner would have on me.
After a rough start freshman year both athletically and academically. I devoted myself to improvement and started with running each day my freshman summer. My improvement from the moment I got back to cross country season was noticeable to say the least. This success transferred over to my academics where I began receiving higher level awards for my grades.
Staying devoted to improvement the coming seasons and grades were going to be much better than before. I boosted up my grades and was able to run many personal records. This year I was able to break 14 in the 2.5 and 17 in the 5k. My 2.5 mile is 13.33 and my 5k time is 16.46. These are my best times for the Cross Country season. As for the track season that will be beginning soon, my goals are to: Break 4.30 in the mile, Break 10 in the 2 mile, and break 2 in the 800 meter. I current run a 4.45 mile, a 10.27 2 mile, and a 2.08 800 meter. Alongside my ambitions for track, I’m still focused on my grades and receiving an overall average of 95 or higher, which is translated to a 3.8 GPA or higher.
It was because of that summer, where I decided to turn myself around and devoted myself to improvement, that I was able to accomplish my goals. I have come to demand success out of myself and take nothing less. This does not mean I do not know what it feels like to fail, I do. The difference is, I do not define myself by my success and my failures, but by my character and whether or not I can say that I did everything I could have possibly done and nothing less.
