Sam Cherney '12 Recruiting Profile

I only started throwing discus last year(2008) because one of my friends told my that because i was big, i'd be good at throwing. I only realized that i should continue to throw when my coach started to pay more attention to me then to the varsity throwers. That summer when the Empire state games roled around i was using the 1.6 for the first time( we used 1ks in modified). I finished 7th i my region, out of 8. I quickly realized that i didn't like to loose. That summer i threw, went to some camps and started to lift. That season i found myself actually competing against my senior and junior teamates who were respectively 4th and 5th in the state. I ended up missing going to states by 4 inches but have only sence worked harder.
