I have been running since my freshman year in High school. After my first year of Cross Country I fell in love with running, so I decided to give Track and Field a chance. I can truly say that it was the best decision that I have made thus far in my high school career. I know it would be a great opportunity and privilege to run Track and Field in College where I can be around athletes that love to work and compete at a higher level.
I am a quick learner when it comes to Track and Field. During the season my block starts weren't that great. So over the summer I have been working on block starts and weights. I have PR'd every race since my Freshman you so you can expect great times for me. I've also never done any type of weight training whatsoever since I've done any type of athletics, so I know that there is a lot of room for improvement. I get along great with teammates and I'm not afraid to fill the leadership role if needed.
Academically, high school was a weird, fun, new, and painful experience for me. Since it was my first time balancing sports and academics I STRUGGLED through freshman year. There were times where I felt overwhelmed coming from practice and having cook, clean, do homework e.t.c. And I ended up going to summer school towards the end of my freshman year. This year, as a sophomore, I approached it with an entirely different mindset. I knew how important it would be for me to balance my grades and athletics hand in hand, so I went to work. I went from D's to B's and C's to A's. My Cross Country season went well and was full of PR's. My second semester ended badly, with me missing work and finals due to having the Flu for two weeks. Now, going into my Junior year well prepared with summer workouts and intense studying, I'm ready to tackle the next six years head on.
I want to attend a college where I can enjoy pursuing my major and being on the track with my fellow athletes. I want to be in a school that treats academics just as seriously as athletics. I am open minded and open to all options to find a college where I will spend the next 4 years of my life pursuing one of my passions, and later give back to my family and community. My family and I are all track-heads. So when the kids start to come around my age it will make a great story to tell, and maybe they will develop the love for running that I do.
