I honestly love to run. I have ran track and cross country since the 6th grade and have been pretty good at it. But in middle school track and cross country definitely was not my focus, I was a 5 sport letterman all through out middle school and loved to play basketball the most, but during my transition into high school, things changed. My basketball coach freshman year knew I was a really good distance runner because every time we had Mile Monday's for conditioning, I would run 5:30 or better while the rest of the team was struggling to run under 6:10 for the mile. Then one day during the mile in basketball the head cross country and track coach for Hebron was out watching us run. He saw me run and immediately came over and convinced me to do cross country and track. Ever since then my love for running has grown, and my desire to be the best runner I can possibly be. I do things right and religiously follow my training system, because I really do believe that it is working. My freshman 5k PR is 18:36, during the summer between my freshman and sophomore year, I did everything in my training system correctly and treated every run like a race, and improved my 5k PR to 16:06 in one year. I'm definitely committed and dedicated to becoming an outstanding runner. I want to finish in the top 10 at state in cross country and track, following in the footsteps of Robert Domanic and Kevyn Hoyos ( Hebron CC and Track alumni ), as they both achieved those goals. Robert actually won state in cross country, and won state in the mile and two mile in track. I know that I have a strong work ethic and dedication to the sport. I want to run for a D1 College Cross country and track program in the future.
I am currently a team captain for the varsity team, and I know that I have good leadership skills, because I don't always have to tell my teammates what to do. Instead I will lead by example and they will follow. Knowing that we have a very young team this year, it makes the job of the team captains very important, because the younger guys are distracted easier and sometimes lose focus of the goal that we are trying to achieve. We have to make sure that our guys are focused and motivated all season long, so we can achieve the great things we have our eyes on.
