Personal Statement
My Grandpa was my mom's coach when she was younger, and so when I got to the 7th grade, I was able to run track and that's where I started. When I got to high school, one of my friends parents told me I should run the 400 after seeing me in the 4x400 relay. I wasn't the best runner my freshman year, I got third in both the 200 and 400 at the district meet, but in long jump, I some how managed to PR by half a foot and finished as the district champion. I was determined to become a better runner, so I joined USATF and started running summer track. Over the two months that I worked with my coach, I managed to drop 4 seconds, and went from a 56 to a 52. I kept this drive that dropped me down those 4 seconds, and my Junior year I became the 400m District champion.
I ran a PR of 49.2 after a whole season of struggling to break 50 seconds. This took me to the regional meet where I had to sub in for the 4x100 relay, and later run the 400. I was seeded first in the region and seemed to be all set to go to state, but that never happened. I false started in the preliminary round and never even ran the 400. Now I am as determined as ever to make it to state, and maybe even win it. I am willing to do anything my coach tells me, and with my determination and mindset there's no reason I shouldn't be able to make it.
I am a good candidate for a next level team because I am a very coachable athlete. I apply instruction quickly and efficiently, I trust the process and believe that it's going to take me where I need to be. In college I know I can make a great addition academically, as I hope to continue my trend of being top of the class, and athletically I know I could be a good teammate, as I always have a positive attitude and I'm not afraid to offer constructive criticism wherever it's needed. Bettering myself and my team is always the priority when it comes to track, and being able to compete at the next level all while getting an education is the dream.
