Personal Statement
Hello coaches my name is Angel Torres. My collegiate goals from an athletic standpoint include becoming an all American and helping to push my team be a top 10 contender in the nation. I consider myself a good candidate for any team because not only do I have experience, I have also shown a successful career in academics and life as well. What makes me different from other athletes is that I have competed for a top 10 team in the nation at the the NJCAA D1 national meet for cross country in 2020. I have competed to win a state meet and I can bring a push not only in meets, but practice as well by motivating and helping other athletes struggling with injuries. I have also trained with 2 All American runners in the 1500m and 10k and I have learned from them. I consistently show a willingness to improve by communicating with my coaches about what I could improve on to make myself a better runner.I have also learned that summer and winter mileage are just as important as the cross country and track season themselves. I keep notes of every meet that I‘ve ran in college and write down what I could improve on for the next race. This past summer in 2 ½ months I put in nearly 600 miles in good quality workouts, easy runs, and long runs. I have also helped my teammates by encouraging them to continue building their summer mileage alongside me. I believe my leadership abilities have helped make an impact on the rest of my team. From an academic standpoint I know how to reach out to get help in subjects that I have struggles with and am always willing to make time for my teachers and tutors. I have also helped plenty of the freshmen here in my college on the XC/TF team get tutors and point them in the right direction to get help academically. I also make sure everyone is in study hall on Friday mornings and I keep a sheet of my study hours every week and have a set schedule for my study hours. That is why I would be a great athlete in your university.
