Personal Statement
“We look with our eyes and not with our hands!”, my mom would tend to say. I recall hearing this over and over as I grew up as I tended to touch almost everything I saw or took items apart just to put them back together. I seemed to have a natural and at times obsessive interest in building and demolishing and my parents were all too happy to help channel that interest.
In order to help me channel my knack for building and demolishing, I was given various boxes of Lego’s. The first sets were on my level as I would spend countless hours working on them as they seemed to hold attention. As time went on, I began to receive box sets that had many pieces and at times on a level that was not recommended for my age group. No matter how large or small the pieces were nor the quantity, I was never discouraged about getting to the end. As always, my parents wanted to challenge me to see how well I could complete the task.
As time has passed, I have embraced life’s challenges and those normal milestones. I developed a lot of patience throughout the years along with perseverance, motivation and a dedication to always doing my best. My willingness to working hard and having been focused on my future goals helped me strive toward getting into college. Balancing various activities such as being in a robotics club for a time, volunteering at my mother’s school and holding down a part-time job at Old Navy has contributed to me being a team-player, a good steward of my time and a well-rounded individual.
Upon moving forward with my plans for the future, I see myself contributing positively to society as a whole. My willingness to serve others, immerse myself in interactions that create an environment for me to grow while learning from others and being teachable will catapult me toward a successful future.
