Personal Statement
I am a junior going in to my senior year at Olympus High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am a starting guard on Olympus HS varsity basketball and this past year decided for fun to try High Jump after Basketball season ended. In my first ever track meet at the Kearns Invitational, I jumped 6'4" without any previous instruction, practice or training. After this track meet, I experienced soreness in my jumping ankle (I guess from the new motion of HJ that I was not used to?) and so I decided to sit out the next few track meets while my ankle recovered. I returned in the sectional finals track meet and won by jumping 6'4" again. The following week at the State Finals at Brigham Young University, I finished 2nd in the State Finals clearing 6'4" once again but missing on 6'6" to the eventual winner. I believe with a little training/instruction, I will be jumping 6'6"-6'8" very soon, I just need to work on clearing my drag leg.
I started long Jumping after the track season because my HS track coach suggested I try it. I have jumped 22' 4" in practice on my 2nd try. I will continue working on LJ and add that to my events schedule my senior year.
In basketball, I have been playing on a traveling AAU team for the State of Utah called UBC (Utah Basketball Club) and have consistently averaged over 20 points/game during my AAU-UBC high school basketball career. Our high school, Olympus HS, is consistently one of the top 3 teams in the State of Utah.
