Hello, my name is Ian and I have been running for as long as I can remember. When I heard that there is a sport about running, I knew I had to try it out. Thus, my love for Cross Country and Track had begun. I would love to continue to participate in these activities as I grow more as a person and athlete in college. I'm a multi-sport athlete and I think each sport has taught me a valuable lesson that I carry with me team to team. For example, wrestling teaches me to push through the pain, to not give up, no matter how far behind. Soccer teaches me to communicate and be a team player. While track and cross country teach me that what I put in, I get out.
I love trying new things; from events in Track to foods to sports and in general. I hate quitters and always try to complete what I've started to my maximum ability.
On a side note, I do realize my times are not the greatest but please note that this is my first high school track season and I do not attend track practice. I duel sport within my high school. I currently go to soccer practice and games, but only track meets. I'm also on a club soccer team that keeps me busy during the weekends. This is not an excuse just an insight saying that I believe I can reach higher goals once focused mainly on track.
May 2015: I recently won my district and conference for the 800M. For soccer, I was placed on Second team All-District for the striker position. Also, I received a scholarship called the 'Wilbur and Helen Feltner Athletic Scholarship'. It is a scholarship that goes out to one male and one female junior athlete who has an "outstanding performance as a student at Clarke County High School, exhibiting superior academic and athletic aptitude and ability."
June 2015: 1/2A States just happened this weekend! Our 4x800MR dropped 26 seconds, I personally dropped 6 seconds from 2:05 to 1:59! For my 800M, the same thing happened. I dropped from 2:05.04 to 1:59.06, placing second overall. In the 4x400MR, we dropped 6 seconds, I personally dropped 1.17 seconds from 53.03 to 51.86 (splits were by hand). Both the 800M and 4x400MR races, I was in the slowest heat and ended up winning both heats.
July 2015: Since our previous cross country coaches quit, we were left with no guidance for the summer. I had high hopes for the season to come so I decided to ask a neighboring school (Millbrook-5th in 4A states with 2 runners in the top 5) if I could run with them. The coach said I could train with them for the whole summer and gave me their schedule. I have been running with them daily.
August 2015: My season's first cross country invitational was 8/29 and there were 12 teams participating. I ran a 16:32 and got first overall for boys varsity. The course, however, is a little short at 3.0 miles. With the additional .1 factored in mathematically that's roughly a 17:10 which would be a PR for me. I am running +40 miles seven days a week.
September 2015: Just got voted team captain!
October: Placed second at districts and just ran a 16:29.2 at Third Battle Invitational. I felt real good crossing the line; I was definitely tired, but there was still some left in the tank. This makes me excited for post season and track!!
November: Second at Conferences, 4th at Regionals (Panorama Farms - 17:03), 7th at States (16:55 - Great Meadows). Training for Foot Locker South Region
