Personal Statement
My name is Alfred Anthony McGuire Jr and I have been running cross-country since I was in the seventh grade, but I've been running track and field as of last year. I understand that any athlete may say that he or she is different because: they work hard, they are dedicated, or what not; but how many of them are capable of saying that he or she is adaptive. Since I'm in a military family, I've grown up to be adaptive getting used to: moving to a different state or country, attending a new school, and running for a few different teams. Therefore being adaptive is something that I am very glad that sets me apart from the other runners and without that I would be another candidate saying the same thing.
My collegiate aspirations would have to be me being the first male in my family to go into college right after high school and graduate. I honestly feel that graduating college with a degree will give my family a sense of pride, but most importantly it will be an eye opener for me and will show me exactly what I am capable of accomplishing off the track or cross-country course. I may not be the smartest apple in class but I am becoming a more intelligent person as I grow; meaning an intelligent person will ask for assistance if something needs to be clarified for him or her.
