Hello. My name is Joshua Gordon and I am in my senior year at Liberty High School. I am a 3 year letterman going into my senior track season. I am also a 3 year letterman in football.
I love to compete! I have been playing sports since a young age. I have been on teams that have won championships and enjoyed great success like my Little League baseball team and teams that haven’t won a game like my community basketball team. Along the way I have learned a lot about the importance of hard work, dedication, a positive attitude, and that I can’t let adversity define me. It isn’t what happens to me. It is how I respond to the adversity that matters.
I discovered track during the 8th grade. My mom was a state champion in track and I thought I would give it a try. I found I had a knack for competing in the jumps and sprints. Last year during my junior season, I placed
1st in State at the Long Jump and 2nd in the High Jump. My 1600m relay team placed 1st at state as well. I finished 6th in the 200M dash. I have broken 3 school records (High Jump 6’ 7”, Long Jump 23’ 7/12”, and the 100M 10.8) and hope to break the 200M and triple jump record my senior year.
Since I was a young boy, my favorite sport has been football. I have played the sport for 10 years including all 4 years in high school. I have had some amazing experiences on the football field including catching a 4th quarter touchdown pass to start the rally against Odea High School. We ended up coming from 17 points down in the 4th quarter to win the football game and advance to the State semi-finals where we
beat a heavily favored Lakes High School advancing to the state finals.
My favorite football career moment though was catching the game winning touchdown over Kasen Williams as we upset the #1 defending state champions Skyline Spartans during our first regular season game of my
junior year.
During my senior year we experienced some setbacks caused by missed opportunities, and near misses but I was proud to be voted a season captain by my teammates and finish the year as the leading receiver for our conference.
School is very important to me. I have always had a goal to earn a college degree. Currently I am interested in a sports related field but have not determined a specific area of study. I have been able to maintain a 3.5 GPA through my junior year.
I would like to compete for a Division I University. I am happy to contribute wherever I can. In addition to the jumps and sprints my coaches tell me I should try the decathlon when I get to college. Here are some of my best times and distances in Track and Field:
Freshman Year Sate: High Jump- 6' 14th place
Sophomore Year State: Long Jump- 22'2" 2nd place, 4x400 3:21.47 2nd Place,
High Jump 6'0 9th Place
Junior Year State- Long Jump- 22'10" 1st place, 4x400 3:22.08 1st Place,
High Jump 6'6" 2nd Place, 200m 22.54 6th Place
Senior Year State: Still to come!
