Personal Statement
As a senior in high school, the question is always posed- what do you want to do with your life? I believe it is a question that can be answered many times as I complete my high school and college careers. Each year, as I am exposed to new educational experiences, I learn more about myself. One thing I most recently learned was my interest in accounting and finance. While many of the internal testing shows I am more fitted for a career that works with people, I have great interest in the challenges from accounting. At this point, I would like to further explore the opportunities available in the area of accounting. While I am researching where I would like to attend college, I am also considering a double major that would work well with accounting, such as business management. I believe by maximizing the education available to me in college, I will see more success in life.
With this in mind, I have also developed a great love for Track and Field. The two events in which I participate, Triple Jump and Hurdles, really provide me an opportunity to accomplish something individually and contribute to the team. When I am not competing in an event, I am always moving around the event to support the rest of my team mates. The interesting thing about Track is that you can have great accomplishments as an individual, but it takes the support and commitment of everyone to be successful as a team. As a junior this year, I was able to mentor the incoming team members by providing support, direction and positive feedback on how to be successful. I believe my patience allows me to be a good leader in this area. Often times, individuals can get caught up in their own personal success, which is important, but does not see the importance of a team environment as well. This is what differentiates me from other athletes, and I believe makes me a great asset to a team.
