Jacob Tarabetz '15 Recruiting Profile

My High School team has just won our first ever Section title (CIF-SJS) is a 3-0 sweep (first in Section history).

Spring of my freshman year was the first time I had ever set foot on the hardwood with the intention of playing volleyball. I began my high school career as a three sport athlete, playing football, basketball and, at the convincing of my basketball coach, volleyball. As a left handed athlete with a good vertical leap, my coach said volleyball would be a great way to stay in shape during the off season. By sophomore year, I realized volleyball was my passion. I was fortunate enough to be invited to play for our Varsity team, and have the opportunity to be a starter the entire season.

This summer (2013) was my first opportunity to play club volleyball. It was a fantastic experience to be a starting member of a team that ended up taking the silver medal for the 16's at Junior Nationals in Reno, NV. Now, just a few months later, I have made the decision to step away from football to focus my attention and effort on volleyball. I am in the gym most days of the week working on strength and conditioning, along with club practice.

My goal is to play volleyball at the next level. I am not only an athlete, but also someone who genuinely cares about my school community. I am looking for a college that values my contribution as an athlete, a student, and a member of the school's family.  It is important to me to attend a reputable college where I will have the opportunity for education, athletics and leadership, while I develop relationships with my classmates and teammates. Although I am not the type of student who participates in formal student leadership roles such as Student Council, I prefer to display my leadership skills in other areas; such as supporting a class or teammate who is struggling, being a champion for a change my teacher or coach is trying to instill, or simply leading by example.

Although I do not have a specific career in mind, I hope to study a combination of Business and Psychology. I believe these paths will give me a well-rounded perspective that will allow me to balance the needs of the company I end up working for as well as those of the employees and customers.

I am enjoying this journey to find a school that will be my home for the next few years after finishing high school. Thank you for taking the time to visit my profile.
