Hello, my name is Desmond Williams. I am a senior at La Sierra High School in Riverside, California. I began playing volleyball my sophomore year and immediately developed a love for the sport.
During my first season, my skills on the court improved rapidly. At the end my first season, I received the JV MVP Award, which is an award the coach doesn't usually give out. I was then pulled up to move on with my varsity team through the playoffs. Although we lost in our second round of CIF, I had shown great improvement and decided to play for the Inland Empire Volleyball Club's (IEVC) 18's team. I worked hard to become a better all around player and it showed the next season.
When my second high school season began, I was named the starting varsity middle blocker/hitter. My team and I fought hard and earned second place in league and made it to the second round of the playoffs. At the end of the season I earned the Coach's Award because of my attitude on the court, as well as my ability to improve my skills throughout the season. I returned to IEVC as the starting middle blocker/hitter and continued to develop as a stronger and smarter player.
Having never played before, I joined my high school's water polo team my junior year. Within my first week, I became the starting varsity goal keeper. I am currently in my second varsity water polo season. I am the starting goal keeper and I'm also a team captain.
At the end of my junior year, I interviewed for a position in ASB and was successful. I am currently an ASB Commissioner of Sound, where I am responsible for my school's sound equipment during most of our high school events. We provide the equipment and music at our lunch activities, pep rallies, sporting events, and some dance team events.
I am aspiring to be the first college graduate in my household. I am an only child and although my parents attended community college, they moved into their careers and didn't graduate. My parents, who also played sports, are very supportive of me, in the sports I play and the activities I participate in. They are also completely supportive of me going to college. Actually, it's not a question of going to college, but which college will I be going to.
I am really excited go to college and to compete at the next level of volleyball. I hope that my skills and hard work on the court can improve my chances of receiving a greater education.
