My name is Emerson Ye. I am a 6'1", 165 pound setter from San Diego, CA. I started playing volleyball in 2008 at age 10 and have been playing club volleyball for six years and high school volleyball for two years, going on my third. I have been starting setter for the Torrey Pines High School Varsity volleyball team since my freshman year and recently helped lead my team to 1st place in our League and 4th place in CIFs for the 2012-2013 season. In addition, in the summer of 2013 Torrey Pines High School formed its first beach volleyball team in which my partner and I took home first place in the Division II Championships.
I have also experienced success in my five years playing club volleyball. I began my club career at Wave Volleyball Club in 2008 as a 10 year old on the 14-1s team. Subsequently in 2009 I joined Seaside Volleyball Club’s 14-1s team where I began my training as a setter. In 2010 I began playing at Epic Volleyball Club’s 14-1s team as a starting setter and after another year of training returned to Wave VBC, where I started for their 14-1s team and ended up qualifying for Junior Olympics. Ever since then I have been going to JOs every year, once in 2011 with Coast (formerly known as Shorebreak)’s 15-1s team and then again in 2012 with Wave’s 16-1s team, where we took 3rd place in club division. Currently I am the starting setter on Coast’s 17-1s team and hope to continue going to JOs every year.
Academically, I have been working hard this year and earning all As so far in all my classes including four APs. I am hoping to receive straight As for the remainder of my high school years. My goal is to pursue a career in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and have been taking programming classes while at TPHS. I love volleyball and hope to be able to continue setting for a high level team while earning my degree. I am motivated, a hard worker, and realize that balancing collegiate sports and academic studies requires a great deal of self-discipline and dedication. Ultimately college is what you make of it, and I am confident that earning the opportunity to set for an NCAA volleyball team in college will allow me to make the most of the best years of my life.
