Personal Statement
The first time I played volleyball was my freshman year at Oviedo High School as the starting libero for our JV team. I quickly improved as I became more interested in the sport leading me to work hard and earn a spot on the varsity lineup by the end of my freshman season. Sophomore year I started as our DS, and I mainly played back row for our right side while participating in serve receive over our outside the entire season.
Following my sophomore year I heard about the Ocean Bay Volleyball Club from some of my teammates which made me interested enough to try out and see where it would take me. I ended up playing on the Ocean Bay 16 Surf under Lyman head coach Russel Williams who has won multiple State Championships while coaching Lyman. As a coach he is the main reason I am where I am today because he taught me the basics and helped push me to learn the game both physically and mentally. Seeing as I've only been playing volleyball for a short time compared to many players of my skill level it goes to show that I am very coachable and I am continuing to get better day in and day out. As a player I have never been one to get complacent and that is why I have improved at a remarkable pace.
As a junior at Oviedo High School I was our starting Libero as we finished the season with a 19-3 record (Best record in OHS history) putting up wins against 2 recent state champions in Bishop Moore and Lyman High School. Also, I was recognized as a First Team All-Conference player and the Defensive Player of the Year at Oviedo my junior year. As a student I have made sure to always put academics before athletics because I understand how important it is, and that is why I am finishing my senior year of high school fully enrolled at the University of Central Florida.
As a senior I will be playing Libero again and I will help lead our high school team as we aspire to be the best in the state. Also, another reason I stand out from other liberos is how I am succeeding at playing volleyball for club/high school, working daily at Chick-fil-A, and keeping a 3.5 gpa at the University of Central Florida. Following high school I hope to complete a bachelors degree in Engineering or Computer Science and play 4 years of college volleyball at the highest level.
