Personal Statement
I became interested in volleyball because my older sister would always bring me outside to pepper with her. Thanks to her, I tried out for my first club volleyball team. After playing volleyball for eight years, I have learned how to become a better team player and help further the team. My favorite volleyball memory would have to be when the Iowa High Performance Boy’s Youth team competed in the Junior National Tournament in 2014. This was a three-day tournament where we finished 2nd overall. This showed me that coming from Iowa, where boys’ volleyball is still a growing sport, that the possibilities were endless and that volleyball is a sport that I wanted to pursue. Volleyball in Iowa comes with its challenges, such as having to travel to play in competitive tournaments, finding enough boys to commit to a traveling team and finding enough Iowa teams to fuel a local tournament.
Whether on the court or on the sidelines cheering my team on, I will always maintain a positive attitude, help my team grow, and with that I grow as a person and a leader. My main college goal and aspiration is to earn a degree in my field of study and be prepared for my future career as a nurse. With these goals in mind, I believe I would be a good fit to your program.
