Personal Statement

Hi coaches, my name is Cody Hurt, I am a sophomore of the 2025 class and I go to Fort Zumwalt West High school.

I want to go to college to play collegiate ball at the highest level, why..., because I love the game with all of my heart, I want to prove others wrong, and I want to become even better than I already am. I've played many sports in the past, football, baseball, soccer and more. But I've always done volleyball, it's the only one I wouldn't drop even though i couldn't even find a place to play until my freshman year. I would sacrifice for it, making sure I was always on time, at every practice and game. I just loved the sport, but yes, there were times where I wanted to quit, take the day off. But I remembered why I play, the good times I've experienced, the fun I've had. Also, I want to prove others who doubted me wrong. Everyone has someone who doesn't like them or thinks little of them, whether it's an opponent, a friend, a teammate, or a coach. I've had people put me down to boost themselves, or to bring me down in order to beat me, most of the time it actually coming from my own teammates. So if I get to go to college to play ball while they're sitting at home or sitting in class bored or regretful, then that's prize enough in and of itself.  Finally, another reason why I want to play volleyball at the collegiate level is because I want to become even better than I already am. I have pushed myself more and more everyday but I am well aware that what got me to this level, won't get me to the next. I am also aware that iron sharpens iron, and your environment can have an impact on you if you let it, which is why I think I would only become even better and thats all I want, is to become the best and play at the highest level.

Now I may want to play at the collegiate level for several reasons, which is nice and all, but there's no point if I can't contribute to the team. I could be an asset to the team because I have a high Volleyball IQ, i'm aggressive and Relentless, I take full responsibility whether its my own or my teammates fault and I am able to shoulder responsibility. I am a leader and I always push to have a good attitude. I can recognize when my teammate has an advantage through a matchup, I can also realize when the flow of the game is starting to go toward the other team and when the game is going toward us as well. And you don't have to worry about me playing timid or cautious, I always will play to win. I will always put in the effort and focus to outwork anyone and everyone while still encouraging and pushing my teammates. I will never show disrespect and will be aware of what I say, do, or post knowing that it represents and reflects upon the organization, the team, myself, and the college. I will be aware and maintain encouraging and respectful body language and verbal communication, attitude, and energy. I am quick to learn and I hold myself and my teammates to standards.

To end it off, some of my goals I wish to accomplish and seek as I go through college. I'm simply looking to play ball at the highest level possible, I am open to almost anything and I am willing to try it out. I will say I do think environment, and teammates are important, as well as the coaching staff and the college itself. I want to feel like I'm in a place where everyone is trying to get better but no one is trying to put others down to do it, and yes if I see a teammate doing it I might call him out but other than that, I really am just looking to do what I love at the highest level possible, and to the best of my ability. Thank you for your time and the opportunity.
