Personal Statement

If there was one word to describe me as a person, it would be balance. I believe that I lead a very balanced life, but it was not always that way. I've hit highs and lows in every area, academics, athletics, and everything in between. I was forced to find balance the hard way, but I believe because of these hardships and experiences that I have gone through that I have been shaped into a better and more mature young man and student athlete.  I did not find volleyball until midway through my eighth grade year, so beginning to play the sport put me at a natural disadvantage to other players throughout the state and the country. I recognized this, and used it to fuel my ambition and drive to become better and better every day through physical and mental training as well as practicing every aspect of the game to become a competitive all-around player, capable of playing at the college level. My catchphrase to motivate myself is "it will be me", telling me myself that over and over again through training and practice, believing in myself when no one else would and working towards making my dreams a reality.

By pushing myself beyond my limits and putting in hard work (something I don't think a lot of people know the true meaning of), I have learned the value of teamwork, commitment, leadership, and once again, hard work. I believe that being such a balanced individual and drawing experience and knowledge from all different activities from music, theater, Boy Scouts (I am proud to say that I have earned my Eagle Scout award), 4-H, and athletics has taught me how to put these attributes to the best use in my life and in my training in volleyball. I am searching for a program that offers both competitive academics and athletics. I firmly believe that I possess the talent and skill to compete at the college level, as well as the work ethic, character and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on your program. Because of balance, I know that I have what it takes to succeed and lead at the college level.
