Personal Statement
To whom it may concern:
First, I would like to say thank you for this opportunity. My name is Juan Jesus Berdecia, better known as JJ presently attending Memorial High School where I have been playing boys Volleyball since freshman year. I am looking for a college to meet my academic needs and as well to fulfill my desire to play college volleyball.
I have many goals and aspirations in my life; one goal is to excel academically as well as on the court. I am a member of the Memorial High School boys’ volleyball team, and for the last two years, I have been named floor captain and team captain. The position I play best is outside hitter, I am also a defensive specialist. I was chosen as an all-county player my sophomore year, and I was also voted best defensive specialist / libero during my junior year.
Summer of 2014, I had the opportunity to attend camp at Kean University where I learned how to jump serve, and also spruced up on my personal jump float serve and my serve-receive. I look forward to once again joining the players that will be attending camp this year and I am excited to learn more. Lastly, I am excited about playing club later in the fall.
I have personally assisted those in needs through humanitarian efforts, Haitian Relief and helping people during Hurricane Sandy. I have also participated in Food pantry programs at the Local Church.
Participating in volleyball has helped me with my self-determination. I am focus on seeing anything I start all the way to the end, giving it my best. It has also taught me overall leadership skills, which I think are very important in life. It is easy to be a follower but in order to be a leader; you must challenge yourself every day.
These are some of the experiences that best capture my approach to life.
