Personal Statement

My name is Tyler Hammond. I love to play sports, do music, have fun with friends, and work to achieve what seems impossible to me. I know that if you put your mind to anything you can achieve it. I used to play soccer and basketball, but one day my coach currently came up to me and asked me if I wanted to tryout and play volleyball for the high school, Copper Hills High School. So I accepted and I turned out to be pretty good at volleyball as a middle blocker. When I was denied by my school to play basketball twice I fully converted all of my time to play volleyball and get better at it. One of my team mates from the high school team, Skyler Andam, was talking to me. I asked him how I could get noticed by colleges and what the best path to go would be. He explained to me that it's a very hard process and take a huge amount of time and dedication. Skyler helped me out very much. I went to a BYU volleyball camp during the summer (2016) and it really helped sharpen my skills. I feel like I could be a good candidate because I have the mental drive to do anything and I am willing to do whatever it takes to get better at the things I want to achieve in life and things I love to do! I work really hard in school and I struggle with some things but with the mental drive that I have I will do anything to help my grades be the best they can!

outside of sports I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints and am very active in it with all the service and athletic opportunities it offers. I am taking a concurrent enrollment sports medicine class for the field of study I want to go into and to get college credit that the concurrent enrollment program offers. I have a great family that loves sports and watching what I do, even though nobody in my family plays volleyball. I have three brothers. One of them have served an LDS mission and another one is on his mission now. The younger brother is like me and loves to play sports, video games, music, and have fun with his friends. I am also involved in the Boy Scouts of America program and have achieved the rank of eagle which is the highest rank a boy scout can get. Along with that I am a member of the order of the arrow which is the "Honor Society" of the BSA. There was a study that was taken that compared how many Boy Scouts get their eagle and how many are able to get into the order of the arrow. Less than three percent of boys scouts get their eagle rank, and less than one percent of scouts enter into the order of the arrow. I am very proud of that accomplishment and all the things I was able to do with these programs with learning new skills and serving in many ways. I've been playing piano for about 7 or 8 years and have loved it, but I have leaned more to the side of just playing for fun. I am a huge choir person and love to sing. I am in two choirs at my school and one of them is an honor class. It's been an amazing experience to be with them and all that we do!
