Personal Statement
As a child of a military service member, I, appreciate the value of hard work, dedication, and discipline. I am committed to doing my best in everything that I pursue and growing mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. I am an Honor Roll student (enrolled in Honors and AP classes), leader, and an athlete at Indian River High School in Chesapeake, VA. I love the sport of volleyball! In fact, I gave up football, basketball, and swimming to dedicate my time and energy to sport! I intend to play at the collegiate level and hopefully beyond! Academics, athleticism, leadership and volunteerism are all very important to me.
Academics: I am fully dedicated to my education and that serves as top priority even above volleyball. I am currently, 44 of 409 (4.0375 GPA) in student ranking and I intend to do much better this year. Personally, I am going to challenge myself to take tougher courses and maintain a realistic balance to ensure that volleyball and volunteerism is a mainstay. Upon graduation (2021) I will earn an advanced diploma which will provide me with college credits that will be applied towards my college major. For my undergraduate degree, my ultimate goal is to major in Biology or Chemistry. Post graduate, I plan to apply to dental school and will pursue Cosmetic Dentistry.
Athletics: As a junior and captain of my high school volleyball team, my leadership and athleticism was valued by my coaches and other coaches in my area. The Virginia Pilot newspaper indicated that I am amongst, “One to Watch” in boys volleyball this season. In my 2020 USAV Evaluation I tested above average in two separate areas: Arm Swing/Attacking and Defense. In 2019, I attended a USAV A3 (post club season) and Penn State Volleyball Camp. In the camps, I learned about areas of improvement that can help me to get to the next level. Additionally, I train 1-2 times a week in strength training to ensure that I am playing at peak performance. Over the past 2 years, my high school team has been 5A Regional Champs. This year, the goal is to win state!
Leadership and Volunteerism: Some unique skills that I possess is leadership, team-player, a self-starter, and cooking. I am a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and Class Council. In 2018, I traveled to Germany for approximately 2 weeks of cultural immersion. In 2017, I was selected by my teachers to attend a leadership camp to represent my school over the summer. I volunteer at my church and in the local community. Additionally, this year I will be completing Spanish Level 5 which I hope to continue in college and travel abroad in the field of dentistry.
If you select me, I will give 110% EVERYDAY!
Thank you in advance,
Bryce Clemons
