Personal Statement
My whole life I've played sports. I played soccer for years. I've tried basketball, track, wrestling and I did well in all of them (other than maybe wrestling). I never felt the desire or drive to commit fully to a sport until I took up volleyball. My family all play volleyball and introduced me to the sport in an area where men's volleyball is not popular. The first time I played I knew this was to be my one and only sport. Once the opportunity arose for me to play competitive volleyball, I dropped all other sports so I could focus on the one sport that speaks to me.
So what does that mean? It means I begged my family to install a high-end volleyball court in our yard so we could all play and practice several hours a day. Playing with my family is the same as playing with A & B players in a tournament, which enabled me to grow continually throughout the year instead of just during the volleyball season. It means during off-season I attended any camp I could find and every open gym and tournament that is available. This included sand, grass, court, reverse-coed fours, men's sixes, coed sixes and many evenings of open gyms with A&B players so that I could improve my skills. It means you will not find someone who will work harder than me at volleyball. You may find someone who will work just as hard, but not harder.
Outside of volleyball, my goal is to become a music teacher and to be a part of the high school volleyball program. I feel that I am a well rounded individual that would lend itself not just to the athletic program, but also to the school I attend. My plan is to apply for scholarships within the music departments as I can not only play 5 instruments, but have also written and composed music since I was in 5th grade. My passion for music mirrors my passion for volleyball.
When it comes to anything I am committed to, I have a burning passion for it as well. I am a team leader, but I am also a teammate and supportive of everyone on the team. I know with those things I can fit into the right program as a student athlete. Maybe I'm the guy you're looking for.
