My name is Cavan Cox and I am in the class of 2022, and I attend Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, California. I often look back on my performance during a game to see what I can do better and constantly listen to my coaches on what I need to fix and improve. During a game I make sure that I analyze the way the players move in the water and look for flaws in their technique, to see how I can take advantage of that. There are ways to tell if a goalie can move better to the left or right, which will help you understand the best area to shoot. During a game I use a combination of what we worked on in practice and what I notice about the players during the first few minutes and use a combination of both to understand what will give us the best opportunity to win.
My 2019 season was a great year because of what I was able to achieve. At the start of the season I was working to make it to our Varsity Team. I had just missed out on making it and was a starter for our Junior Varsity Team. I was asked to play up for our travel tournement in the Villa Park Classic and was the only jv athlete asked to play up for the tournement. I was also asked to play up for Div. II CIF SDS where we advanced to the quarter finals, however we sadly lost there and did not advance.
My Junior year, will be a up hill battle because 8 players have graduated and we have to play against teams that have lost 2-3 players. I believe that even though it will be a climb, our team has played together for the past five years. During my Junior year it will be my 6th year on my club team. I am looking to help my team improve over the next two years.
I believe that my combination of academics and athletics will be an improvement to any team setting. I always have a great work ethic and make sure to listen to everything that is said to me by my coaches and other teammates.
For Academics I took AP World History: Modern and my Junoir and Senior year will work through the International Baccalaureate Program that my school offers. My Freshman year I maintained a 4.667 GPA and during my Sophmore year a 4.71 GPA, ranking 1st in my class. I am hoping to study Chemical Engineering as my major in college. I have not taken my SAT/ACT but am looking to take them in my Junior year.
Outside of school during the past three summers, I helped teach young kids how to swim. Maybe in their future they can persue a career in swimming. I also do it to make sure that the children are water safe, so if something were to happen they would know what to do to get out of that situation safely. I learned how to swim at six month old and have been in the water ever since. I think everyone should learn water safety.
