Personal Statement
Hello Coach,
My name is Tim Overbeck and I have a strong desire to become a student-athlete at the college level. I have a passion for academics and a love for the game of water polo. I believe in studying hard and playing hard, and see myself as a leader in the pool, as well as out of the pool. I am currently a senior at La Serna High School in Whittier, California. I am taking 5 AP classes at school, and 1 AP class online. I am our team's captain, President of German Club, member of National Honor Society, and have a class ranking of one. I am a three year Varsity starter on the boys water polo team, and was named First Team All-Area and First Team All-League for two years in a row. I was also named Second Team All CIF for the 2015 season and Third Team all CIF for the 2014 season. While being a part of the Varsity team, we have had two successful seasons, coming in first in league, as well as advancing to the semi-finals for CIF two years in a row. I ended my junior year season with 58 goals, 55% shooting average, 41 steals, and 29 assists. Due to our level of play and the ability to beat D1, D2, and D3 schools, La Serna has now been moved out of Division 5 and up to Division 3. I also play for Kahuna Water Polo in Irvine, CA. I am excited to be training with Nick Baba, an influential member of the water polo community. I was selected for their 18U team to represent the club in the 2016 USA Water Polo Junior Olympics. We finished top 10 in the 18U Classic division. I also competed in the JO's in 2015 for Vanguard Silver and placed 7th in the 16U Classic division. My focus is to work on making myself better at every practice and every game, and to achieve my goal of playing at the collegiate level.
