My goal is to utilize the sport or water polo to further my education and personal growth in preparation for the game of life. Although I have not made a final decision with regards to my continued education, I have narrowed it down to engineering, business management or being a first responder. In the end, I want to settle with a field that will help people in some way – perhaps with designing their dream home or pulling someone from a fire.
In the pool I have strived through my high school career to be a dynamic player who was both coachable and a team leader. I feel as though I’ve accomplished these things and plan to continue these attributes as I play at the college level.
Water polo at the high school level in the state of Oregon is not necessarily a common sport. As a result of this I have essentially been playing for 3-years as there were no youth opportunities available. As a sophomore I was a starter for my school playing point guard and defending wings. I developed a love for the game and found a drive within to work hard in club ball in the off season. As a junior I started at point and was utilized primarily as a slasher/scorer and was assigned to set D. My team won its second straight state championships and I was named state MVP. I bring this up only to demonstrate the strides I have made in this sport that I grew to love in such a short period of time. My senior year my coach moved me to set and I was again assigned to set D. The success of our schools program, as well as other teams in our conference really promoted the sport within the state. I was proud to be a part of seeing the sports growth in popularity during my highs school years from having 15 to 20 spectators watching games my sophomore year to packed pool stands with jammed student sections and cheerleaders my senior year. I have watched the sport grow so much in the state of Oregon during the years I played and am proud to have been a part of this. I really want to help the sport of water polo within the state of Oregon in some capacity in the future.
I look to continue to develop in the pool both physically and mentally through out my upcoming college water polo career. I will strive to continue my focus on being a team leader, being coachable and an asset to my team with contributions made during practice and games. In addition, I want to conduct myself in and out of the pool in an honorable and respectful fashion that reflects the values that I have been raised by.
