Male Student Athlete of the Month
Brett Kingsley
Fowlerville High School
Webberville, MI
Brett Kingsley is a three year letter winner at Fowlerville High School in Michigan. He is a 2009 graduate that has had his ups and downs during his high school experience.
“After my freshman year of high school, I got side tracked in life. Things went downhill and I lost focus in everything sophomore and junior years. I didn't wrestle and sat out my junior year for personal reasons. Finally senior year got things around and am out wrestling again. As I look back at my career, it looks disappointing to me. That is what currently drives me and makes me want to compete at the next level to make up for it in college.”
This year Brett got back on track by going 36-10 and was crowned District champion (beat league champ that beat him the week before in finals 13-6). His team also won the district title along with the conference.
Now that Brett is re-focused he is getting a lot of attention from a number of different schools. He is open to go anywhere in the United States, he just wants to wrestle. NCSA wishes Brett Kingsley the best of luck this year and look forward to helping him choose the right athletic and academic fit.
Female Student Athlete of the Month
Rebecca Ruggear
Oxford Area High School
Oxford, Pennsylvania
Senior Rebecca Ruggear is a 5’11” power forward from Oxford, Pennsylvania. Ruggear was like most student-athletes when she joined NCSA a little over a year ago. She was unsure of the process and not hearing from any college coaches. Well things changed quickly! Ruggear put in the work on the court, in the classroom and in the recruiting process. In turn, she head from many schools and made her decision to attend the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, an NAIA program.
Ruggear had a great senior season averaging 15 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks per game. With her studies she has maintained a 3.12 GPA and is in the top 35% of her class. Ruggear knew from the start that she wanted to stay close to home and will look to major in the sciences, like forensics.
The recruiting process is a lot of work, however, you get what you put into it and you can learn from Ruggear. Her hard work has paid off and she will be packing up and heading to be a part of the Devils this fall. We wish her the best of luck!
