NCSA caught up with rising baseball player Matt Rine about his high school career and the opportunity to compete at the next level.
NCSA: What motivates you before a big game?
Rine: I'm always motivated to be the best at whatever I do. In order to be the best, you have to beat the best. That's why I look forward to playing in big games. I have experience of playing in a big game during my junior football season when we played in canton, Ohio for the state championship. I will always remember the atmosphere of that game and the ultimate goal we were playing for, the ring.
NCSA: What are you looking forward to if and when you get the opportunity to play collegiate baseball?
Rine: If I get to play at the college level, I just want a chance to go to Omaha. I know what it takes to be a champion and that would be my only goal.
NCSA: Why did you get involved in baseball?
Rine: I have been playing baseball since little league and have looked forward to baseball season ever since.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Rine: I've visited a few colleges so far. Ohio State has always been my dream college and if the coaches just give me a chance to walk on, I know I would be a major contributor on for the team before I leave.
NCSA: How does your team look for this season?
Rine: I have worked very hard this off-season for baseball. I lifted 4-5 times a week and try to throw and hit every day after school. Last season I batted for a .345 Avg with 3 HRs and 21 RBIs.
