Summer time is here and this a great opportunity to start looking into showcases. Here are a few tips to think about when considering a showcase.
There are a lot of showcases out there that you might have heard of or have even been too. Some may be one day showcase or some might be two days. The ultimate benefit of showcases, besides the obvious of collegiate exposure, is to get physical measurables timed by a legitimate or neutral source.
- All position players: 60 yard dash time and home to first.
- Infielders: Velocity from shortstop.
- Outfielders: Velocity from centerfield.
- Pitchers: Velocity from the mound.
- Catchers: Pop time.
- Overall defensive and offensive coach evaluation.
* Some showcases also have college coaches talk about what it takes it get to the next level, strength training, and how to prepare as a student athlete (i.e. time management).
Although beneficial some showcases can range from as much as $600-$800. Obviously this is not pocket change. Despite some showcases being some what unaffordable there are a lot of showcases across the country that serve the same purpose and are a lot more affordable. Ultimately it comes down to the families' decision but in order to maximize your showcase choice research is a must.
