NCSA caught up with rising baseball star Mason Hallett to talk about his high school career and the opportunity to compete at the next level.
NCSA: Tell us about your interactions with college coaches so far.
Hallett: I have had very positive interactions with plenty of college coaches. Some colleges seem very interested in me, which is very good. I am happy to be having lots of interactions with all these coaches.
NCSA: How does your team look for next year?
Hallett: My school team looks very strong. We are going to be a high ranked team. I am expecting us to compete for a state championship this year.
NCSA: How do you show a college coach that you are really interested in their program?
Hallett: I tell him that I am interested. I will also make a strong attempt at attending one of their camps. I also contact them frequently through email and phone calls.
NCSA: What are you doing to “take charge” of your recruiting process?
Hallett: I am seeking out college coaches. I am reviewing their websites and learning more about their colleges. I make sure that each college I get interested in is also interested in me.
NCSA: Have you had coaches evaluate you in person yet? Tell us about how that feels. If not, do you plan to go to any camps or clinics soon?
Hallett: Yes, at first I was nervous but then I got used too it. Being evaluated is also exciting, and I learn a lot from coaches.
NCSA: How do you handle nerves when communicating with college coaches?
Hallett: I try to relax at camps by staying loose and talking to other kids. On the phone I feel it’s easier. They are still not that hard to talk to since they are people too.
