Doug Roth was a 2006 High School Graduate, and NCSA client out of Lake Travis High School in Austin, TX. As a collegiate prospect, Doug experienced some very good success and eventually signed with Xavier University in Ohio.
Doug played the fall at Xavier, and decided that it would be best for him to move in another direction. After parting ways with the coaching staff and his teammates on very good terms, Doug received his official release from the athletic department and decided to reconnect with NCSA.
I received a call from Doug’s father, Scott, explaining the situation and asking if there was anything I could do to help Doug at this stage. Here at NCSA, our student-athletes are members until they graduate college, and so I was very excited to hear about the opportunity to help find Doug a new collegiate home. After a great talk with Doug’s father in which we developed a plan of attack and discussed what I needed on my end in order to precede, the journey began.
After I received the official release from Xavier, and after updating Doug’s profile with new physical measurables, and skill attributes such as pitch velocity, I was able to evaluate and determine what colleges I was going to target.
After the evaluation period was over, I approached the respective college coaches with Doug’s information along with an explanation as to his current situation. The response to Doug was unlike any I had ever seen before! Within a 15 minute span I received 14 emails and eight phone calls wanting to know more about Doug and his situation. I spent the next 3 1/2 hours speaking with and responding to coaches’ requests and questions. From top tier D1 programs to well respected Junior College programs, everyone seemed to want a piece of Doug Roth.
That night I spoke with Doug and he informed me that he too was getting bombarded with emails and phone calls from college coaches. As weeks passed, and the contacts continued to mount, Doug and his family began the all important process of following up with each coach to discuss his current situation and determine his future. Some coaches needed to see him pitch live, some invited him out for visits, and the responsible, diligent way the Roth family handled the heavy correspondence enabled him to ultimately decide which college opportunity was the best overall fit.
After a thorough evaluation process by the Roth family, Doug decided to sign with the University of Texas-Pan American. Every member of the NCSA baseball department were very fortunate to have worked with a student-athlete like Doug and could not have been happier for him.
